I Played Some Poker...

Now that the auditions are finished it is time to return to the felt and play some poker! I played 2 sessions for the first time in what seems like forever ago. I believe it was around the last poker blog post at Thunder Valley in Sacramento.

My mom's boyfriend Rich needed some help driving to the bay area on a Wednesday in January and I got to play at one of my favorite poker rooms: Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park. It was a very brief session and Rich and I had several drinks and a fantastic dinner at Cafe Giostra a couple of miles away in Petaluma. I only had a few hours to play as I didn't want to leave Rich stranded doing nothing the entire time. Long story short I lost a gross hand with Kings against A7. It was a pretty weird spot and I got the money in way way good but Variance wasn't on my side.

So I'm sitting on about $300 in a 1/3 game. Villian has about 1200 and was super agro and I knew he was messing around a lot. A bunch of people limp and Villian makes it $25 right away. I look at KK on the button and make it $125 right away trying to make it clear that I know he is full of shit and I'm messing with him. Another guy in the small blind had around $85 after I doubled up through his QQ with A10ss. (We got in $150 pre and I got there on the river :) Yeah I know pretty sick for him but I had drinks and I didn't want to fold) He was super tilted and put in the 85 with qjo. Everyone folds to the villian who calls $100 more. Pot has almost $325 in it and the flop comes J73 rainbow, Villian checks and I snap jam my last $185 with the kings. VILLIAN CALLS! I'm super stoked and he insta turns a7o saying I don't have shit. Before I can be like you are wrong 7 comes right on the turn and I'm screwed hahahaha. Oh well... Can't complain got it in super good. He calls $125 pre with a7 and then calls $185 when he flops 2nd pair. I guess he didn't want to fold either since he had $1200 and money to burn in the 1/3 game :). I was super steamed / tilted after that and Rich and I left.

Flash forward to my last audition in Cincinnati a couple of weekends ago. I had some time to spare after my lesson Sunday, and I always enjoy checking out the local casino when I am visiting a new city. Its also fun to figure out the place for poker should I go to school at Cincinnati Conservatory. The casino looked very new and was packed and happening. The poker room had 10 tables going: 2- 1/2 PLOs, 2- 2/5 NLHE, and 6- 1/2 NLHE! It was definitely busy and there was good action.

I sat down at the 1/2 game and it was very passive and I was able to splash around and bluff. I didn't really pick up any hands and the game was pretty nitty so I was even most of the time. I did pull off a huge bluff in a pot which was awesome when the 2 other people folded on the river. I knew they couldn't face a large bet on the river and it ended up working out.

A couple hours later our game breaks and I move to a new table. I have a9 in the big blind and it limps around. Flop comes a94 rainbow and I'm loving life. Small blind leads out big, I raise, then middle position goes all in. I snap of course but run into 99. I got coolered but what are you going to do. Just one of those spots where the smaller monster pays off the bigger monster. Luckily it was only for 225 or so.

So that's pretty much it. I should be playing more often and I will try to keep this blog more active. Now that the auditions are finished I should have more time for poker again. I've been missing it and its time to turn this down swing around! I also want to do a couple of poker streams on Twitch. Maybe against Collin or the Broadway Poker Group. It would be a lot of fun. Until next time, let's hope the run good can come back!
